10 Most Beautiful Forests around the World

Despite the deforestation that takes place around the world, there are still plenty of incredible forests to enjoy. From Canada to Poland, some of the best sights to check out are the local trees. It doesn’t matter whether the forest is large or small. Amazing beauty can be contained in just a few special trees. Take a look at the list of most beautiful forests in the world.
Most Beautiful Forests Around the World

1. Crooked Forest, Poland

 Crooked Forest Poland
Poland has a very interesting forest made up entirely of crooked pine trees. While a few trees growing in an odd fashion might have a reasonable explanation, all of the pine trees in the Crooked Forest are crooked in the same way. The entire forest is made up of only 400 or so trees, but it has been around since the 1930’s. Theories abound as to what caused the odd bends, but one suggests that tanks rolled over the trees during the war.

2. Amazon Rainforest, South America

Amazon Rainforest South America
No one can hear the word ‘rainforest’ without thinking of the Amazon. The jungle is so massive that it spreads over nine different countries and covers a total of 5,500,000 square kilometers. Despite deforestation problems throughout its history, the Amazon rainforest still makes up more than half of the world’s rainforests.

3. Juizhaigou Valley, China

Juizhaigou Valley China
Jiuzhaigou Valley is known as the valley of nine villages and is a popular destination thanks to its brightly colored lakes and amazing waterfalls. The land around the unique lakes and falls is covered in thick forest. The trees grow over a wide range of altitudes, from around 2,000 meters above sea level to about 4,500 meters above sea level. The area was declared a World Heritage Site in 1992, which will help preserve the forest in the future.

4. Coconino National Forest, the United States

Coconino National Forest United States
Located in Arizona, the Coconino National Forest is a high elevation forest, with trees growing along mountains at up to 12,000 feet. The majority of the trees are either aspen or Ponderosa pines, making a beautiful mix of foliage. The Coconino is so named because it runs over the Mogollon and Coconino plateaus. For anyone who enjoys hiking, there are plenty of interesting trails to explore in the area.

5. The Great Bear Rainforest, Canada and the United States

The Great Bear Rainforest Canada and the United States
When you think of rainforests, you probably think south of the border, rather than north. The Great Bear Rainforest is one of the largest intact temperate rainforests remaining anywhere and it stretches from British Columbia to Alaska. The forest is home to many species, including grizzly bears, black bears, cougars, salmon and wolves. Flora includes a 1,000 year old Western Red Cedar and a Sitka Spruce that has grown to 90 meters in height.

6. The Black Forest, Germany

The Black Forest Germany
You’ve probably eaten Black Forest cake before, but did you know it’s an actual forest in southwest Germany? Also known as Schwarzwald, the Black Forest was named by Romans who found the trees were so thick that they blocked out all but the most stubborn rays of sunlight. The Rhine Valley runs along the west and the south edges of Schwarzwald, marking the borders rather definitely.

7. Tongass National Forest, the United States

Tongass National Forest United States
Alaska is home to more than one of the beautiful woods on this list. The Tongasscovers 17 million acres, rendering it the largest national forest in the United States. More than one Native Alaskan tribe lives in the trees that form the Tongass. In fact, more than 75,000 people depend on it to make a living.

8. The Inland Rainforest, Canada

The Inland Rainforest Canada
The vast majority of this rainforest, located in central British Columbia, is made up of Western Red Cedar. It is one of the rare inland rainforests. The nearest coastal rainforest is almost 1,000 km to the west. Large sections of trees have never been touched and several trees are well over 1,000 years of age.

9. Sherwood Forest, England

Sherwood Forest England
Best known for hiding Robin Hood and his Merry Men, Sherwood is a very popular tourist attraction. Thanks to the folk tale of Robin Hood, half a million people show up to see the trees in person every year. It’s a relatively small forest, covering just over 1.5 square miles. At one point, there were more trees, back when the forest was used as a hunting ground for royals.

10. Sagano Bamboo Forest, Japan

Sagano Bamboo Forest Japan
Bamboo is such a beautiful plant; it has entire gardens dedicated to it. In the Arashiyama district of Japan, an entire bamboo forest has been planted. More than a dozen varieties of bamboo thrive in this unique forest found west of Kyoto. Don’t think this is a little grove, however. Some of the bamboo plants tower over visitors by up to 100 feet.
People have traveled to see forests for decades. While leaves changing colors might fascinate some, others will find that bamboo and rainforests attract their attention. There is so much beauty in the world and much of it is found beneath the shaded boughs of a tree. Have you ever been to one of these breathtakingly beautiful forests?

10 World’s Most Dangerous Mountains for Rock Climbing

Mountain climbing is a demanding activity that is certainly not for the faint-hearted. Wild animals, avalanches and pneumonia are all potential hazards that could occur at any moment. Climbing some of the world’s most dangerous mountains is a dream of every serious rock climber. Every year, thousands make that dream a reality. The following mountains require years of training, hard work, mental preparation and dedication before someone can even think about attempting them. Altogether, these 10 mountains have claimed thousands of lives, yet still attract many hopeful climbers eager to attempt the long and dangerous journey to the top.
World's Most Dangerous Mountains for Rock Climbing

1. Eiger, Switzerland

Eiger Switzerland
This stone giant stands at an impressive 3,970 metres. The first recorded person to reach the top was in 1858, but the notoriously tough north face was not successfully passed until 1938. The north face of this mountain is known as the Murder Wall amongst rock climbers and has claimed over 64 lives since 1935.

2. Annapurna, Nepal

Annapurna Nepal
Annapurna is an ancient Sanskrit word which translates to the ‘Goddess of the Harvests.’ 60 people have perished on the slopes of this 8,091 metre mountain which is the 10th highest in the world. Only 157 brave souls have ever made it to the top. The first was in 1950 followed by a successful ascent from the south face in 1970. More recently, Tomaz Humar from Slovenia became the first solo climber to make it to the top via the south face in 2007.

3. K2, Pakistan/Chinese Border

K2 PakistanChinese Border
K2 is the second highest mountain in the world at a staggering 8,611 metres. No one has ever attempted to climb this mountain during the winter. One out of every four climbers that start the long climb will die before they reach the top. The summit is plagued by extreme storms that have earned it the nickname Savage Mountain.

4. Mont Blanc, French/Italian Border

Mont Blanc French Italian Border
The Mont Blanc may not seem so intimidating as it stands at only 4,810 metres, yet it has claimed over 8000 lives. This is due to its popularity and it is climbed by an average of 20,000 tourists every year. France and Italy have fought for centuries over ownership of this mountain and currently share the rights although the majority of it is in France. The first woman to reach the top of Mont Blanc was Marie Paradis in 1808.

5. Nanga Parbat, Pakistan

Nanga Parbat Pakistan
This 8,126 metre behemoth has also never been conquered during the winter time. Many climbers have lost their lives here including 10 tourists who were tragically shot and killed by local extremists. The name Nanga Parbat means Naked Mountain in Urdu, but several deaths have earned it the more fitting title of Killer Mountain.

6. Kangchenjunga, Himalayas

Kangchenjunga Himalayas
The world’s third highest mountain sits on the border of Nepal and the Indian state of Sikkim. It is worshipped by the people of Darjeeling and Sikkim who refer to it as the Five Treasures of Snow after its five high peaks. In 1955 a British Expedition became the first group to reach the top but never actually set foot on the peak. This was because of a promise to the Maharaja of Sikkim who had asked that the top of the mountain remain untouched. Every climber to this day has followed the same tradition.

7. Fitz Roy, Patagonia

Fitz Roy Patagonia
Fitz Roy is one of the most technically difficult mountains to climb despite its relatively small size of 3, 405 metres. Mount Everest has over 100 visitors to the top every single day during the summer season, but Fitz Roy is lucky to receive even one guest per year. It is extremely isolated which creates many problems for climbers both technically and mentally.

8. Vinson Massif, Antarctic

Vinson Massif Antarctic
The first time this 4,892 metre giant was seen by human eyes in 1958 after a US Navy Aircraft spotted it. It was successfully climbed in 1966, and more than 1,400 climbers have conquered it since. Many guide companies offer expeditions to the top for around $30,000 per person as it is relatively easy to climb despite its huge size.

9. The Matterhorn, Swiss/French Border

The Matterhorn SwissFrench Border
The Matterhorn is one of the deadliest mountains in the Alps. The first expedition to the top ended in tragedy after four members of the party fell to their deaths on the way back down. This mountain stands 4,478 metres tall and was one of the last mountains to be climbed in the Alps.

10. Mount Everest, Himalyas

Mount Everest Himalyas
Earth’s highest mountain is an incredible 8,848 metres high. It is known as Sagarmatha in Nepal and Chomolungma in Tibet. Its status as the world’s highest mountain has attracted a huge amount of tourists, and as of March 2012 it has been climbed 5,656 times. Many people have claimed that the commercialization of Everest has devalued one of the most incredible places on the planet.
Mountains are ancient, mystical places that are among the most isolated places in the world. Their harsh conditions and dangerous paths seem to be indicating that humans are not welcome on their slopes. Despite this, thousands of climbers are drawn to mountains each and every year, and even the risk of death is not enough to deter them.

10 Most Peaceful Countries In The World

Do you know which are the most peaceful countries in the world? Since 2007 each year, the Global Peace Index has been issued by the IEP (Institute for Economics and Peace) and is a measurement of nations’ and regions’ peacefulness based on external and internal measures. Although it seems like the world is becoming more cruel, according to the Global Peace Index there are 20 most peaceful countries in the world.

1. Denmark

Denmark
Denmark tops the list of the most peaceful countries on Earth since it’s really a safe place to live. Even while Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, was under occupation by the Nazis during the World War II, it still did not fight. The point is that people living in Denmark prefer to focus on economic matters, instead of involving themselves in various armed conflicts. Danish people are very friendly, open and helpful. Personally I have been to Copenhagen twice and I wish I lived in this country. I’m pretty sure that those who have been to Denmark at least once could say the same.

2. Norway

Norway
Many people do not expect Norway to appear in the list of the most peaceful countries in the world. Perhaps, this is because of Anders Behring Breivik, mass murderer, who hit the pride of the country hard. Sure, it was an extraordinary incident, but according to the Global Peace Index Norway is one of the world’s most peaceful countries and friendly and safe place to live. Norway is the country with the highest level of human development in the globe, plus, the government of Oslo always places peace at the forefront of the priorities of the country.

3. Singapore

Singapore
As an active member of the international community and, overall, a small nation,Singapore can never take its right to exist and security for granted. Since achieving its independence in 1965 as a sovereign Republic, Singapore has always concentrated on being a great neighbor, through establishing social, peaceful, economic, cordial political relations with all countries.
The country has worked with the United Nations and its supporting agencies on a great variety of efforts.
It also participates in various global, unilateral and multilateral organizations to promote international cooperation, including WTO (World Trade Organization). Singapore is among the most peaceful countries in the world as well as one of the world’s wealthiest countries. The homicide and violent crime rates are lower than the criminal rates.

4. Slovenia

Slovenia
A beautiful European country, Slovenia is also among the most peaceful countries in the world. The country got its lowest marks in funding for the United Nations peacekeeping missions, number of police and security officers, level of perceived criminality in society, number of organized internal conflicts, violent protests, and number of internal and external wars fought. I agree with the Global Peace Index and believe that Slovenia deserves its place in the list of the most peaceful countries on Earth. Moreover, with its wonderful cities like Maribor and Ljubljana teeming with unique culture, Slovenia is a fantastic travel destination.

5. Sweden

Sweden
One of the most beautiful Scandinavian countries, Sweden is located in the far north of Europe. Although Sweden is one of the biggest weapon exporters in Europe, the country has a low level of robberies (only 9,000 a year) compared to the United States (about 350,000 a year)! According to the Global Peace Index, Sweden is one of the most peaceful countries in the world, in spite of the fact that it’s among the world’s top arms exporters. Besides, Sweden has not been to war and has not participated in any combats for the whole 2 centuries.

6. Iceland

Iceland
Iceland was also ranked as one of the most peaceful countries in the world, staying out of the main conflicts in the world. Iceland seldom or never hits the headlines and despite the collapse of the Icelandic banks several years ago, the country is remained as an amazing place of spectacular natural beauty. Tourists from all parts of the world come to Iceland to view its huge glaciers and raging volcanoes, as well as numerous unique natural and cultural attractions in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.

7. Belgium

Belgium
According to the Global Peace Index, Belgium is one of the best and most peaceful places to live in Europe and on Earth. Situated in the heart of Europe, this small country holds a special place. Brussels, the capital of Belgium, is home to the European Union and NATO. Belgium boasts medieval cities, beautiful town halls, majestic castles, and captivating natural beauty. Homicide and imprisonment rates are low in this country, even though Belgium did experience a crisis within its government over the 2008-2011 period.

8. Czech Republic

Czech Republic
A relatively new country, the Czech Republic gained its independence from the Soviet Bloc in 1989 due to the Velvet Revolution and its subsequent split with Slovakia. After the division of Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic has largely concentrated on building a strong capitalist economy and creating a stable climate for investment. In 2009, the Human Development Index (HDI) ranked the Czech Republic as a country of ‘Very High Human Development.’ Renowned mostly for its magnificent capital city Prague and breathtaking natural beauty, the Czech Republic draws tourists from all over the world.

9. Switzerland

Switzerland
According to IEP, the Swiss maintain a well-functioning government and an open political culture. Illustrating the quality of government, Switzerland received the lowest score for political instability. It’s also among the world’s most peaceful countries that have low levels of violent crime. Although Switzerland is known for its neutrality in regional, international and global political issues, it maintains strong diplomatic relations with various countries around the world.

10. Japan

Japan
One of the most enchanting countries culturally, Japan has the third largest economy in the world. Since the World War II, Japan has been really peaceful, with little internal conflict and low crime. The country settles on an internal security force in order to maintain the peace. Japan is a peaceful as well as breathtakingly beautiful country worth visiting.
It’s a great advantage to live in a peaceful country, and if you are lucky to live in one of the above-mentioned countries, you must be proud of it! So, what do you think of this list? What can you add to this? Please share your thoughts in the comments and thanks for reading!
